About

Hugo Donkin is a producer & EP who threads comedy, animation, and mixed media into stories that linger on the brain.

His credits span two decades. Starting in docs at Vice, he soon moved into narrative spanning music videos for Gorillaz, Idris Elba, Little Simz and Mastodon, ads for Trolli Worms, and series including The Amazing World of Gumball for Cartoon Network.

Continuing in scripted, he produced Don't Hug Me I'm Scared, directed by Becky Sloan and Joe Pelling, a surreal YouTube experiment that crossed a quarter-billion views before becoming a BAFTA-winning Channel 4 series. He is currently producing Alley Cats, Ricky Gervais' 2D series for Netflix.

Alongside the bigger canvases, he has a consistent habit of finding grassroots talent early. Shorts include the cult comedy Jarressey with BAFTA-winner Jamie Demetriou, Channel 4 animated short Goblin Solutions starring Nick Mohammed, Tom Lawrinson and Lorna Rose-Treen, and Adult Swim Smalls including Peter Hair by Uncle Shortbread, which drew over a million and a half views, and Wilem by James Papper. A new short with Joe Pelling and comedian Sam Campbell is in the works too.

He connects the handcrafted world of makers, designers, artists and animators with the comedy world. The result is work that cuts through and builds communities and fan bases that last.
